Fortune Article Features Heidi and Recognizes the Importance of Client Appreciation Lunches
Instead of showing appreciation exclusively during the holidays, some businesses are building it into their day-to-day and reaping business benefits on account of it.
By Vickie Elmer, contributor
FORTUNE -- When Kristina Bouweiri started hosting customer appreciation lunches in 2009, she thought she was just helping a friend boost her lagging business.
Little did she know that the lunches, which have been held in posh restaurants around Washington, D.C. like The Palm and Capital Grille, would introduce her to almost 900 of her clients, giving her own business a jolt.

Washington Exec Talks to Heidi
Technology makes the world more efficient. To Heidi Kallett, it also makes memorable moments more “mass produced” and less personal. Kallett told WashingtonExec about her decision to become CEO of The Dandelion Patch, a local fine stationary boutique based-out of Vienna, Virginia. Kallett also explained why she has been able to thrive and expand given the current consumer market, as well as her company strategy that keeps customers coming back.
WashingtonExec also asked Kallett about The Dandelion Patch’s corporate packages and its commitment to helping the local community.
Since Kallett took over as CEO, The Dandelion Patch has expanded to Georgetown, Leesburg and Reston. Read full interview here.
United With Love Features Our Wedding Etiquette Tea
We are talking manners today! The Dandelion Patch hosted a wedding etiquette tea, an event for brides-to-be and their mothers and bridesmaids. This contemporary high tea (sliders and English Breakfast Tea anyone?) was focused on making wedding etiquette fun and practical rather than stuffy and particular. Anna Post, etiquette guru, and great-great-granddaughter of Emily Post, said that etiquette is all about warmth and graciousness. She is also the author of the book Wedding Etiquette: The Definitive Guide to Your Wedding Experience. Although today things are a lot more flexible, it’s still important to be thoughtful of your wedding guests and their experience! Here are a few important highlights that I took away from the event:

Our Advice on How to Help Friends in Need on "Ask Miss A"
How To Help Friends In Need
So many of us hate asking for help, but there are just some times in life when we can’t do it all. Sometimes they are bitter times and other times sweet, but we all experience trying circumstances at one point or another and can become overwhelmed to the point where we let basic everyday chores fall by the wayside (cooking, cleaning, mowing the lawn). Take having a baby, for instance. When we are inundated with new responsibilities like caring for an infant around the clock, we forget to take care of ourselves. Or, perhaps we’ve lost a loved one, been ill or had surgery. During those times, we remember and appreciate those who stepped in to lend a helping hand. Should you have a friend or neighbor who may be in need of a little extra help, be warned that she may not ask for it. However, I recommend stepping up and pitching in one of these several ways.

Gift Guru's Suggestion on "I Am Modern"
When I think of fall I think of (what else?) pumpkins, apples, jumping in the leaves and drinking warm cider. There’s some nostalgia about fall activities and traditions that I like to celebrate year to year. Something else that I’m very nostalgic about are books that I read as a child and when I saw the new Amelia Bedelia books written by the late Peggy Parish’s nephew, Herman Parish, I was charmed. The picture books, written for children 4-8 years old includeAmelia Bedelia’s First Day of School,Amelia Bedelia’s First Valentine, and my personal favorite, Amelia Bedelia’s First Apple Pie.
