The 'Patch' takes a trip to Pompeii!

Today's "Where in the world is the Patch?" entry comes from Andrea. Andrea traveled this summer to Italy, and visited the ancient ruins of the city of Pompeii. See that mountain behind Andrea? That's Mount Vesuvius and in 79 AD it erupted for 2 days. This catastrophic eruption buried the city of Pompeii in 12 - 18 feet of volcanic ash and pumice. The city was lost for nearly 1600 years when it was accidentally discovered in 1592.

Today, Pompeii is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy, drawing more than 2.5 million visitors each year.

There is still a few hours left to enter our summer contest! Send us a picture of you on vacation holding a bag from The Dandelion Patch, and you'll receive a Vera Bradley tote for FREE!

Where is the "Patch" today? In the land of volcanoes - Iceland!

The "Patch" has traveled all over the world this summer. From Nags Head to New York City, to the Middle East and Bahrain. Today, our entry comes from one of our number one "Patch" fans - Margaret. Margaret and the "Patch" traveled this summer to Iceland, and this picture was taken during her visit this July to Iceland and the sulpher fields at Namaskard.

Some fun facts about Iceland:

  • Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe.
  • The average life expectancy is 81.3 years for women and 76.4 years for men, one of the highest in the world.
  • Many Icelanders believe in elves. Certain roads have been rerouted to avoid disturbing areas where elves are thought to live.

How I Beat Those "Back-to-School Blues" - Heidi's Picks!

It's that time of year that my kids begin to whimper about not wanting to go back to school. And every year, I assure them that although we'd ALL love to stay on permanent summer vacation and keep that Coppertone tan, they will eventually be glad to be back around their buddies full time, learning interesting (and some not so interesting) topics and growing to their full potential.

A couple of weeks ago I found these wonderful lunch boxes, luggage tags and water bottles that can be personalized. I immediately ordered the darling set for each of my children. I chose the soccer ball design for my son, and the oh-so-cute polka dot pattern for my daughter. And now that these goodies have come in, I have two kids who are asking me why they have to wait to use their new school sets!

Fresh packets of pencils, clothes with the tags still on them, and stinkin' cute lunch boxes, water bottles and luggage tags . . . It's the back-to-school ritual!

Except this time, my kids are counting down the days until school begins - excited to show off their mom's newest fashion find. Here's a hint from a mom who made a mistake: you may want to share one item at a time with your kids so their excitement may carry you right to the front doorstep of school!
