The 'Patch' takes a trip to Pompeii!
Today's "Where in the world is the Patch?" entry comes from Andrea. Andrea traveled this summer to Italy, and visited the ancient ruins of the city of Pompeii. See that mountain behind Andrea? That's Mount Vesuvius and in 79 AD it erupted for 2 days. This catastrophic eruption buried the city of Pompeii in 12 - 18 feet of volcanic ash and pumice. The city was lost for nearly 1600 years when it was accidentally discovered in 1592.
Today, Pompeii is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy, drawing more than 2.5 million visitors each year.
